Thermally activated nature of synchro-Shockley dislocations in Laves phases

چکیده
Synchro-Shockley dislocations, as zonal dislocation, are the major carrier of plasticity in Laves phases at high temperatures. The motion synchro-Shockley dislocations is composed localized transition events, such kink-pair nucleation and propagation, which possess small activation volumes, presumably leading to sensitive temperature strain rate dependence on Peierls stress. However, thermally activated nature dislocation not fully understood so far. Quantum effect on thermally activated glide of dislocations.
Crystal plasticity involves the motion of dislocations under stress. So far, atomistic simulations of this process have predicted Peierls stresses, the stress needed to overcome the crystal resistance in the absence of thermal fluctuations, of more than twice the experimental values, a discrepancy best-known in body-centred cubic crystals. Here we show that a large contribution arises from the ...
متن کاملDeformation at ambient and high temperature of in situ Laves phases-ferrite composites
The mechanical behavior of a Fe80Zr10Cr10 alloy has been studied at ambient and high temperature. This Fe80Zr10Cr10 alloy, whoose microstructure is formed by alternate lamellae of Laves phase and ferrite, constitutes a very simple example of an in situ CMA phase composite. The role of the Laves phase type was investigated in a previous study while the present work focuses on the influence of th...
